Texting While Driving and Alabama Liability Insurance

Category: Blog

A new law has been proposed to ban texting while driving in Alabama. Alabama liability insurance auto coverage may have you covered in the event of a road incident you cause while texting, but it’s important to drive safely and responsibly to protect your life and the lives of other drivers.

The ban aims to help reduce such accidents and keep the roads safer. The law would include a fine of $25 for drivers who are caught texting on their mobile phones. With each violation after that, the fine amount would increase. Repeat offenders may have their driver’s license suspended. Similar bans have been put into place in several other States, including a recent ban on truck drivers texting while driving commercial vehicles.

At the moment, the proposed law only relates to mobile phone texting and not to making or receiving calls whilst driving. While a number of individuals are arguing that the law is futile because it’s not completely possible to tell when someone is texting, the truth is that if it’s against the law, at least some drivers will cease to do it – and some, is better than none! While the bill is yet to pass the Senate, it may be a step in the right direction to creating safer roads. Fewer distractions means drivers can stay focused when behind the wheel. Safer roads may also mean fewer claims on Alabama liability insurance auto coverage policies, which also may in turn help to keep down the cost of premiums.
